Group Vision
A supportive, respectful community group to help people parent the way that they want to
- To provide everyone with opportunities to learn, play, and shares information and ideas.
- People can offer suggestions for talks, discussions, activities, ways of running the group, and be encouraged to feedback on better ways to run the group, rotate leaders.
- Everyone is in the group has something valuable to offer. There is freedom to participate as little or as much or as much as they desire in each activity/talk or discussion.
- Safety is paramount – both physical and emotional. Hot drinks to be drunk in a separate area or with great care. Tools can be used i.e. knitting needles, scissors etc showing children with an interest how to use and then putting away in a safe area when not in use.
- Where possible to use non-evaluative, non-conditional language. Instead to use positive factual phrasing and support.
- If someone does not want to do an activity there is no pressure – but there should be respect for people who have made an effort to provide an activity or for organisations who have come to offer tasters)
- For all members to support each other to look after all children (creating a community – in an “it takes a village to raise a child” way).
- Should any issues between members arise – for their to be a mediator experienced in NVC to resolve – no talking about any members without their presence so that we have an emotionally safe environmental for all.
- To have a sounding board for issues that arise with small children – an adult takes notes to listen to all concerns asking children to take turns voicing their concerns – without judgement or evaluation.
- To where possible, reduce, reuse and recycle!
- Games are to be non-competitive – i.e. prizes and rewards are avoided.
